The Global Climate Action Summit will bring leaders and people together from around the world to “Take Ambition to the Next Level.”

Taking place on September 12-14, 2018, the Summit will celebrate the extraordinary climate action of states, regions, cities, companies, investors and citizens from around the world. It will be a moment for these climate leaders to come together to inspire deeper commitments from each other as well as national governments, in support of the Paris Agreement.

As Secretariat to the Under2 Coalition, The Climate Group will host the Under2 Coalition General Assembly at the Summit on September 12. States and regions are key drivers for bending down the emission curve by 2020, which science tells us we must do to prevent the worst effects of climate change. At the General Assembly, state and regional governments will showcase the progress they’ve made, and how they will step up ambition to make the Paris Agreement a reality.

The Climate Group is also part of the Summit Advisory Committee and is leading on one of the five focus areas of the Summit, Healthy Energy Systems. The goal of this challenge is to achieve a global shift toward clean and equitable energy and mobility systems to advance climate progress and enable healthy people and places.

Challenges

As part of the Healthy Energy Systems challenge, we invite states, regions, cities, investors and businesses to demonstrate past successes and commit to additional action and innovation to fully decarbonize their electricity systems by 2040, through:

  1. Moving towards 100% renewable electricity and delivering clean air; and
  2. 100% zero-emission transport.

Hundreds of companies are already taking the lead on renewable electricity and electric vehicles through The Climate Group’s RE100 and EV100 corporate leadership initiatives, aiming to accelerate the clean energy transition and make electric transport the new normal by 2030.
